Minecraft Potion Brewing Guide and All Recipes

Brewing is way more different than Crafting and Enchanting the tools, weapons, and armor. If we talk about Brewing, it is used to create potions that give you a special ability for some time.

Potions can play a very crucial role in our Minecraft journey whether you talk about the OverWorld, Nether, or End Dimension by entering into the end portal. Potions in Minecraft grant special abilities when consumed, which can be used to boost your strength.

There are also some potions with negative effects that you can use in your Defense mechanisms in combat situations against the mobs. for example:- Potion of Weakness.

The most important ingredients to brew any potion are Brewing Stand, Blaze Rod, Nether Wart, and Water Bottles.

To create a Brewing Stand, you need to have a Blaze Rod and three Cobblestones. Arrange the following items suitably as shown in the image given below:-

To obtain Nether Wart and Blaze Rod, you have to go into the Nether Dimension. You’ll get to see these ingredients only in the Nether Fortress situated in the Nether Dimension. While the Water Bottles and the Cobblestones can be easily found in your OverWorld (main world). You have to perform underground mining below the dirt to obtain cobblestone.

You have to craft a Watter bottle by using three glass blocks. You can get Glass blocks by lacing them into the Furnace with coal.

Tip: To avoid venturing into the Nether for Nether Wart, bring Soul Sand and Nether Warts to grow your own unlimited suppy of Nether Warts.

Awkward potions are mandatory for brewing any specific potion. To brew a specific potion, place the additional ingredient on the Main Ingredient Slot with Awkward Potion. Awkward Potion in itself has no use and no effects. They are just used as the precursor before brewing any specific Potion.

You can brew only one Awkward potion with one Nether Wart. Placing three Water Bottles with one Nether Wart will not resul in the brewing of three awkward potion.

Upgrading of Potions

In Minecraft, there are also some potions with negative effects that you can’t use on yourself. These potions come in the category of Negative or Offensive Potions. You have to use it for your self-defense against the Mobs like wither or other mobs.

For example:- You can’t use the Potion of Weakness on yourself as it decreases the strength and melee attack damage, but you can use it on the Mobs or to cure any Zombie Villager.

In this case, it’s important to have Splash and Lingering versions of potions, as well as Extended Duration Negative Potions.

Splash & Lingering Potion

Splash Potion: To create a specific Splash Potion of any potion, you must add gunpowder (main ingredient slot) with the potion you want to create the Splashversion.

For example:- If you want to convert the Potion of Weakness into Splash Potion of Weakness, you must place Gunpowder (main ingredient slot) with the Potion of Weakness (Water bottle slot) in the Brewing Stand.

Increased Effect

Yes, you heard it right. There are also some potions which can be upgraded. The main ingredient used for upgrading the potion is Glowstone. Brewing any potion with the Glowstone in the brewing stand will increase the potency of the specific potion.

For example:- You can’t place redstone dust with the Potion of Healing in the brewing stand, but you can add the Potion of Healing with the Glowstone, this will result in the increasing of overall Healing Effect.
